Innovative production in the greenhouse: flower strips, mixed crops, plant mulch
(January 23, 2020) The GRAB experimental farm is one of the five experimental sites. In this trial we have two tunnels where we apply techniques that aim to make organic production, at least for protected vegetable production, more efficient, ecological and resilient. In these experiments we are testing a combination of three approaches: first we have introduced flower strips to encourage beneficial organisms, second grown mixed crops to make better use of soil resources and to make it more difficult for pests to spread, and thirdly, we also work with plant mulch. This is intended to reduce the use of fossil fuels, which are necessary in the production of plastic mulch.
